“You people” is an inherently unskillful way of communicating to someone.

“Those people” is an inherently unskillful way of communicating about others to someone.

The moment you take yourself out of the equation you distance yourself from understanding and empathy.

A more skillful way of communicating is to eliminate these two phrases from your vernacular and when discussing behavior in others you may not understand use empathy instead. Place yourselves in their shoes and find the commonality of humanity that lives in all of us.

No doubt about it life is gonna throw some curveballs. Currently the pandemic we’re all experiencing is one of the crazier ones. The interesting thing about curveballs in baseball is that they’re meant to be difficult to hit. But when a batter stands over the mound and settles in, taps the mound, and preps for it, waits patiently and hits it at the right spot, the curveball ends up being the one you can really hit it out of the park for a home run. If the bases are loaded it’s even better. You gotta be ready and you kinda need to know it’s coming. A good ball player always does. And it’s a thing of beauty to hear the crack of the ball on the bat and watch it fly.

I think it’s similar to life. The curveballs are coming. If we can settle in and wait, then nail it as it hits, we’re going to do better than just survive. We’ll thrive. And it’s possible. We might not hit every one, but isn’t it worth it to try?

And also, don’t you really miss a good baseball game right about now?

You might be eternally happy and if that is the case, I’ll have what you’re having. Or you might be like so many of us making our way through the world attempting to find peace and solitude, with perhaps a bit of meaning sprinkled in. If that’s the case then I’m glad you’re here. I am too. And I’m starting today. So it’s a wonderful thing that as it turns out, it’s never too late to start.
